Shift Leader Job Description


General Job Description:


Primary: The Shift Leader expedites catering and meal preparation, helps to train and supervise volunteers and assists with café closing, with the primary function of serving our high quality, fresh and local, meals to all café customers. 

Secondary: Assists with food preparation if necessary, maintains a positive and encouraging work environment for volunteers; ensure food safety and security standards are being met, maintains a clean and safe working area and is authorized to handle and secure payments, donations and receipts. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Displays an understanding and passion for the mission and vision of Healthy World Café and for the community we serve.
  • Maintain flexible schedule to work evening or weekend special events.
  • Assist with volunteer orientation, training and oversight.
  • Assist with daily closing and clean-up.
  • Assist with box lunch / lunch catering preparations.
  • Consistently demonstrate the highest standards in cleanliness, serving and general maintenance of Healthy World Cafe.
  • Maintain sanitary and proper food and supplies storage and labeling. 
  • Willing to cross-train and work as a team to ensure smooth café operations and to fulfill café mission.
  • Assist in compliance with Health Department regulations and inspections.
  • Operation of cash register as needed.
  • Attend one Guiding Committee meeting per year scheduled with team.
  • Participate in staff and volunteer evaluations.
Qualifications:
To be successful, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience:
  • Background in food service and serving high quality delicious fresh food and an understanding of how to work with a wide variety of produce and foods.
  • Knowledge and experience in sustainable food practices.

Special Requirements:
  • Available to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Operate a variety of specialized food service equipment.
  • Must possess or acquire a valid Safe Serve Certificate.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be focused, flexible and adaptable to a rapidly changing fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills, with the heart of a teacher/mentor.
  • Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.

Tools & Equipment Used:
Standard professional kitchen equipment and utensils.

Part-Time Hours:
Monday – Friday 10 am to 3 pm
Some additional hours as needed.

Wage:
Starting:  $10 – 12 / Hour (commensurate with experience)

Café Assistant Job Description


General Job Description:


Primary: The Café Assistant supports the Café Manager, supervising catering and meal preparation; helps to train and supervise volunteers and oversees café closing; with the primary function of serving our high quality, fresh and local, meals to all café customers. 

Secondary: Fosters teamwork to accomplish café goals; serve as back-up person when Café Manager is not on duty; maintain a positive and encouraging work environment for volunteers; ensure food safety and security standards are being met, maintains a clean and safe working area, assist with food orders as needed, and is authorized to handle and secure payments, donations and receipts. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Displays an understanding and passion for the mission and vision of Healthy World Café and for the community we serve.
  • Willing to cross-train and work as a team with Café Manager and Shift Leader to ensure smooth café operations and to fulfill café mission.

  • Coordinates volunteer duties to assist in the following:
    • Training front house volunteers to fill orders, maintaining standards set by Food Committee

    • Supervise volunteers in the front of the house. 
    • Assist with volunteer task descriptions, orientation and training.
  • Supervise daily opening, closing and clean-up.
  • Assist in preparation of box lunch catering.
  • Assist in compliance with Health Department regulations and inspections.
  • Assist in inventory and purchasing, cleaning and general maintenance of the facility and equipment.
  • Operation of cash register as needed, authorized to open safe.
  • Attend 1 Guiding Committee meeting per year scheduled with team.
